Unit 32: Task Four - Be able to produce a television ident to a brief
Task Four - Be able to produce a television ident to brief
When producing a this ident i had to take a lot of shots and i had to make sure that the camera was stable so that the ident can be watched smoothly. This has to be done so it can look professional and not to come across any errors. once with have taken the photos we would then upload the images on adobe premiere pro.
Once i have uploaded the image on to adobe premiere pro i will then place the images on a scale and scale al the images to frame size to fit on the screen to be able to watch it. Then i would have to check that all the images are in order for it to run smoothly. I would also add a couple of feature such as the music in the back ground to match the theme of the ident.
This is a print screen photo of the sequence of the scenes of the video. This is where all the video and music clips are kept safe. And you can use the same clip more than once. It helps with adding the scene and music together for it run smoothly together. It also imports files that you want that you will need to edit and it is easier to drag the scenes on to the scale.
This is the final outcome where you can watch if the sequence is running correctly as you want it and below you can see the time that is running which is really helpful when editing.

Our Cbeebies ident will be set in school, inside a classroom where they appear from different things. For example, one of the letters will come out of a bag, another one will appear out of a pile of folders, and its just that type of idea that will appeal to the target audience who are the kids who go to school and watch cartoons. The location we would do it in is, Robert Clack School in the media rooms where its got the computers, tables for the students to make the target audience would know where its set at. This ident will conclude with all the letters coming together spelling out Cbeebies, so the audience know the channel.

Unit 32: Task One - Ideas Generation AS2
Task One - Ideas Generation
This is a mind map that i have made to show my ideas for my potential theme ident suite. I will be explaining each potential theme on how it can be used differently for the ident suite. My ideas has been made up by thinking of the key features to add in the ident such as the colours to put in, adding the music in the background, the main theme so it could be about sports, animals and toys and including the different seasons. All of key features are different ways in order for it to appeal to the target audience.
When you look at my mind map i have placed down the different types of things for each idea like the animals which could be based on jungle creature like snakes and monkeys, wild animals like tigers and sharks including zoo and pet animals such as cats and dogs. So the ident can be based on a range of things to let the target audience that the idents are interacting with them and not be boring. Also i have included big sports events like for football the world cup, the olympics or wimbledon tennis this lets the audience know that you are keeping track with the upcoming events by supporting and celebrating it on the idents. This could be set outside where it sunny to get the audience involved so it could be a good influence to them.
As i am making ident ideas for cbeebies which is a kids channel i will have to view my ideas for the benefit for them and for the parents so i wont give ideas that are too complicated. So i have based my ideas on young kids. The majority of children like to see bright and vibrant colours such as yellow, green and orange. So can blend those colours and add some animals for example a colourful moving snake that is set in the jungle which will interest the audience. The theme of the ident be something interesting for audience which is for young kids and the parents. For example a jungle which young kids would find interesting as they are wondering what is in the jungle.
Unit 32: Task Two - Designing the Suite AS2
Task Two - Designing the Suite
For this task i am going show and evaluate on three of my ideas on why they are suitable for my channel and how they will appeal to the target audience. I will also say on what time of the year the ident made for.
This is a video clip that shows all my three ideas of a suite for my channel which is targeted at young children called Cbeebies.
Idea One
This is my first idea that planned out for the morning for young kids looking forward to school. All the letters are in three different colours that go in a pattern start from yellow, green and orange which audience will able to identify. The letters where spelled out as Cbeebies which is the channel this ident suit os for. I start of by building the spelling of Cbeebies starting with the first two letters C and b and then it will gradually end as Cbeebies. Once the letters are together there will b a colour snake going around the letters. I wanted it to have a jungle type feeling to it because we want young kids nowadays to explore more and this ident it supposed to give that sort of feeling.
Idea Two
My second idea that i have planned is for the evening as kids are looking to get an early night sleep before going to school in the morning. It starts of with two yellow dots and the gradually get closer and bond together to make a big yellow smily face in a purple background to represent the evening and night. Then it will split into two smily faces and the supposed to look excited for the morning which the orange background represents then it ends with Cbeebies. This suitable for the channel because it uses bright colours which and it prepare young kids to be excited for the next day.
Idea Three
My final is planned for the holidays when kids will b out of school they will be able to watch more of the channel so they would like to see different idents throughout the day. this ident is a bit similar to the first idea but this time all the letters are in yellow with different coloured background. All the colours that i have used are bright colours which is used to appeal to the target audience which makes it suitable for the target audience.

Unit 32: Assignment 1- Task 3: Understanding the design of a suite of television idents
Understanding the design of a suite of television idents
I will be explaining the design of a suit of a television idents. A suit of idents is when a television channel does not only create one ident but a whole suit of idents but they all have the same theme but just different ways of showing it. What makes a suite of idents better than is that it provides a variety and interest for the audience. It also helps so the viewers will not get board of seeing the same ident but a whole of them relating to each other. Its very productive to have a single theme for the suit of idents because the theme will help create and maintain brand identity. Another positive is that having a suite of idents will help engage the viewers as there are different ones to be viewed rather than just have one which will be continuously be overrun and bore the viewers which will be a negative sign as your are always trying to bring in more viewers. For example its the christmas period and the BBC have create idents with the theme of christmas but it is important that the ident is still identified as the bbc so you must not change everything for viewers not to recognise where it loose the identity of the channel. The graphic designers who create the idents will use an original ident and repackage a little to bit so that it will combine some christmas themes. That being so, the audience will still be able to identify what channel they are watching because it still has some of the original elements of the original idents. They will also have to be able to tell that it is a christmas theme for the christmas television as they are showing programmes based on christmas.
One of the most common and engaging themes do for a suite of idents is the christmas theme because this when the idents are more captivating to watch with the bright and vibrant lights. The BBC are noticeably very consistent with there christmas idents. This will appeal to viewers because christmas one of the most special times of the year. This creates a tone to attract families as it is the time families are closest together.
Year after year the BBC idents uses the same features that you will see in a christmas ident which includes snow and bright lights but the are used for different contents for the ident that could show the popular programmes on the channel (BBC One) such as Doctor Who and Wallace and Gromit. The Doctor who ident below implies that there is going a Doctor Who christmas special on BBC. Also they make other tv christmas idents for other television series like Wallace and Gromit.
The particular time of day to place these idents would be during the majority of the day from morning till evening this will allow a lot of viewers to watch the idents. Since these idents are themed for christmas it would be suitable to place the idents in the month of December where everyone looking for to christmas and new years day. If these idents where places in the season of summer it will look very odd because it to do with christmas and the BBC are very good at making suites of idents for the particular term to show every year to attract viewers and engage them with their idents.
These suite of idents are effective because it sets a different tone with theme to engage viewers and showing viewers that they are interacting with them. The effect of the idents such as the theme, bright and sparkling lights is to represent the upcoming occasion christmas which everyone comes together as a family. And the suites of idents give different content that goes together with the theme of the suite. Suite of idents can also inform viewers on the particular time of year as they make different idents for particular term. An ident can be as short as 10 seconds to give a quick break and they can be as long as 30 seconds to maybe show the idents reminding what channel they are watching or to inform them about the next programme.

Unit 32: Assignment 1-Task Two: Understanding the limitations of the television ident
Task 2: Understanding the limitations of the television indent
Typography is the work of producing written material and the arrangement or appearance of printed letters. Typography is very important to have when looking at an ident because you can be able to judge on how it will appeal to you. Typography refers to the font, text, colour and logo of a particular image or clarity. The bbc is a good example on its use of typography. Most of the bbc channels has all got a similar style to it typography. They all have the same logo, font and similar text style. The bbc channel also uses a range of specific colours for each channel like bbc 1 is recognised for its colour of red, you will notice that in all of bbc 1 indents it must have use of the colour red. The bbc 1 logo is seen to be a simple, bold and professional text style. This shows that the bbc 1 channel is a more serious professional channel because of it text style which could describe programs that it shows. The bbc 2, 3, 4 and cbbc all have their own colour and font style that represents what programs are showed on the channel. However there are limitations of typography that can seen as a positive and negative aspects towards each tv ident. The negative effect of typography in bbc 1 is that they constantly have to use the same font bold and basic lettering in every ident that they show, which become very boring to see these types of style of words all the time in each tv indent that the bbc 1 shows. And the other channels like the bbc 2, 3, 4 and cbbc all constantly use the specific fonts and styles. But it is really important that they must do this because if they keep changing the fonts and text style it will destroy the bbc identity and you will need viewers to recognise what channel they are watching so they can keep on watching it. For example one of the bbc channel like cbbc ident colour is more of a graffiti text style and shows creative animations, it is really important not to bore the viewers because it always use the same graffiti text style and viewers that are watching would be 7-12 years of age so they must appeal to them when creating these sorts of creative indents.

The positive thing of Colour is that it is recognisable and it what they are known for when they do their indents because it must show a form of the use of its colour. For example E4 uses purple on all of its indents they have not changed its colour, same for the bbc one they have constantly throughout the years use the colour red. This makes it ensure visibility because viewers will know the colour department and will know where it belongs. The limitations which brings the negative aspects of colour for indents is that it must only be one specific colour, you cannot change the colour which will confuse the viewers on what channel they are watching. They must use the original theme to notify the viewers the channel that they are watching.
The aspect ratio of an image is the relationship between the width and height of a video image. Aspect ratio is vitally important because designers will have to test idents to produce the specific shape for the television depending on the hight and width of the shape of television. If it is not right shape to fit in the television they could be possibility of the ident not being shown. There will be people watching television on their computers, ipads, smartphones or wide screen television which will use a ratio of 16:9 so the active image must fit a 16:9 ratio vertically and horizontally without geometric distortion. This will give viewers good satisfaction about what the are watching because they do not have to be worried about whats wrong with their Tv.
Adhering to desired tone, is when a television channels shows theres ident for the viewers to identify the idents that are shown to them. The channel must be consistent with the channel genre or the style. For example BBC TWO has a formal ident that shows the programmes it provides such as documentaries and wildlife shows. On the other hand BBC THREE shows a more commercial animated idents to exhibit on its humorous shows such as Family guy and American dad. It is important to set the right tone for the different target audiences because the tone has to be suitable for the considered audience. For example BBC THREE idents show a mixture of bright, vibrant and lively tone which gives an idea it is more targeted at teenagers. What makes the ident so interesting to the viewers is the exciting music, special effects, vibrant colours and animated scenery. The tone create an artistic taste for the ident when it involves the additional features such as the movement, colour and sound.

Duration is the time length if the ident. This is important because of the time it needs to take up. It can be as long as 25 seconds and as short as 5 seconds. Channels such as the BBC ONE do not show adverts so because the programme that they are watching may be need a break the can add an ident. The adverts are noticeably longer because the channel will be introducing shows that will be on later on in the day or week.

Unit 32: Assignment 1-Task One: Understanding the purpose of television idents and the opportunities they present
Identifying the channel
Tv idents is a simple function to let viewers identify the channel that they are watching. Tv indents was first introduced in 1953 on the BBC channel as commercial adverts began to rapidly expand and viewers needed to be able to identify different channels. And the BBC first ident was nicknamed bat wings. Through out the years indents have changed by use of new technology which has played a large role in indents in the modern world.
The emergence of TV satellites in the early 1990s meant that TV indents were beginning to become more important to the BBC. They could also use different to identify areas in where you watch the BBC this is called broadcast regime for example when you are watching the BBC when it shows the ident it shows global view in what area you are in. Sometimes the BBC would used the map of regional areas to reflect the different areas that the BBC channels where shown in, for example BBC London or BBC midlands. In 1963 the BBC introduced the first moving ident which was the the globe would rotated as the BBC logo and a voice would announce that ''this is the BBC".
In 1964 BBC 2 arrived as the second television channel to be operated by the BBC (British Broadcast Corporation) in the UK.
Back in the early 1990s was the arrival of satellites television which means that television indents where becoming more important because satellite television allowed to spread channels around the country and it is important to interact with the viewers making sure that they watch the popular channels and programmes.
Organising the schedule
Television indents are mainly created for the purpose of giving a channel an identity so i can stand out from the rest of the channels so it can attract more viewers. This is linked to the importance and purpose of branding through the use of television idents. Idents are also designed in a specific way that represents the specific television channel. This shows that an idents plays an important role when it comes to a channel schedule organising. This works because the idents are designed to be shot, creative and to blend everything that the television channel is symbolised for and what it portrays itself towards the audience.
An ident is an ideal chance to give the audience key information about the programme. By giving key information about the programme it will make the viewers to continue watching the programme. For example the BBC 1 idents shows what will be up next for there channel like bbc news and they would also suggest what will be happening on bbc 3 and could mention programs like the 'family guy' will be up next, rather than switching to channels like itv who are big competitors with the bbc.
Segmentation of the schedule
Segmenting the schedule is vital to keeping the channel organised. The indents play an important role in doing this. For example you can use idents to add time in between programmes to regulate the scheduling so you can fill in the remainder of the time. The BBC is a non-commercial channel so it does use advertisement between their programmes like channels such as itv or channel 4. Channels like itv and channel 4 use advertisement because thats the way make money by slotting in commercials. The BBC is all about embodying their channel and marketing purposes which makes their idents have a brat purpose. It also provides a break for the studio workers to get sorted with different shifts and so that they are ready to release the next programmes. Placing idents during segmenting of the schedule can also promote other programmes. For example on the day they show the programme such as strictly come dancing which would usually start late in the evening, during the day the ident would show a ballroom to represent what is coming up during the day.
Creating the right tone and appealing to the audience
When identifying a channel an ident is a chance to provide the audience with information about the channel. It can easily reflect the type of programmes that are shown on the channel. It is important that an ident sets the right tone for the channel it is on and is appealing for the target audience because when BBC four arrived it built its reputation on having more factual and informative programmes. The initial idents therefore reflected this by being formally written. It is also important that the tone is set for an appropriate age group of the channel. Channels like the CBBC and Cbeebies show different idents that are appropriate for the different age groups they relate to.
This is a bbc four ident and a cbeebies ident. As you can see they are for different types of age groups. The bbc four ident show a calmer approach something for an older audience. The cbeebies ident is for younger age group for children below the age of seven. The cbeebies ident is a short ident with two yellow bubbles bouncing around and having fun similar to what young children would do.
The idents are very loud and colourful with lost of movement and excitement about it so it can interest the kids which makes the parents happy because it is appropriate. Its also important not to bore children in this age group because the idents have to be colourful and give excitement to children. If i saw a cbeebies ident about books and with no colour it would be boring to children and they would show no interest in watching programmes on it.
Creating corporate identity
Television channels are no longer restricted to one country. Creating corporate identity helps to create a brand image in a range of different locations. Consistency across a range of channels such as the bbc helps to establish a corporate identify that can the be sold across the world.
Creating a brand and encouraging brand loyalty
Building a brand is vitally important for a channel. This will encourage a brand to stay loyal to the particular channel. An ident helps to support the brand of a particular channel by showing the audience so that they can recognise and become familiar with the logo and the style of the channel. By doing this is could also make the channel more popular. It is also a visual reminder for the audience of what the particular channel is and sticks into the minds of the audience. This will then be more likely for them to watch it again.
Branding of a particular content
This when an ident can be used be used to identify that particular content or a particular program that belongs to a certain channel and therefore the content will be branded. For example sports and news have their idents to match in order to be successful ident.
A television ident must have the right the right tone so that it can be appealing to the viewers. A good example of this is More 4 which recently had to re brand the entire channel image. More 4 is an adult entertainment channel the focused on insightful documentaries and political dramas. The channel ident before was in black and green this which did not really appeal to many of the viewers so they change it to be more attractive and accessible. There is now more lifestyle to the idents and ranges of colour which appealed to a lot of the viewers.
A marketing opportunity
An ident is a clever promotional tool for attracting an audience. A good example of this is the Christmas period ITV would have christmas idents to bring in a wider audience because of the time of the year it which is christmas all idents will dedicated it towards christmas. The idents could show the are showcasing christmas specials and Christmas family films. This is very beneficial for the programme.
